Joy of Christmas

December 1997

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." (Luke 2:14)

Is this message still appropriate today, considering all the war, persecution, torture, starvation, need and misery, even at Christmastime?

And yet we come across people who, in spite of earthly troubles and need, terrible disease or sickness, under tremendous pressure and great sadness, nevertheless radiate an inner peace. How do they manage to do that? They have received this peace at the altar of the Lord and preserved it within their soul. We shall also celebrate peace at Christmas, for the peace of God is found at the living altar.

Christmas is also the feast of love. Poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, this love becomes apparent in a way that is pleasing to God if the members of the congregation have prepared themselves for the return of Jesus. Thus, it won't cool off, but remains active and will continue to grow.

Wherever peace and love find a home, hearts will be filled with joy. And so, with a cheerful heart, we move forward on our way to our wonderful home. Lots of people are afraid as they face an uncertain future. For this reason it is a precious gift that, by grace, we are counted among those who - taught by the Holy Spirit - recognize the signs of the times in the spiritual firmament. We firmly believe that Christ is to return very soon: "The Lord comes soon!" This is and remains our greatest and most wonderful joy at Christmas.

I wish all readers a blessed Christmas, full of peace, love and joy.

Most sincerely,<br/>

Richard Fehr
