Australia & Oceania

In 1883, Heinrich Friedrich Niemeyer emigrated from Germany to Australia, settling in Brisbane with his family.

At first the activity of the New Apostolic Church was confined to Australia and New Zealand, but later on its efforts expanded to include the Pacific Islands. Missionary activities began first in Tonga, and soon spread to many other islands of Melanesia and Micronesia. In particular, many flourishing congregations began to develop in Papua-New Guinea.

Today nearly 100,000 New Apostolic Christians live in Australia and Oceania, where they receive pastoral care from some 4,000 ministers in 660 congregations. Together with Australia and New Zealand, the majority of the many small island states of Oceania also belong to the District Church of Australia. The remainder of these islands are in the care of the District Churches of the USA and France.
