Asia & the Middle East

In 1883, an apostle by the name of F. L. Anthing travelled to Java from the Netherlands. Soon thereafter, both Dutch immigrants and Javanese locals began professing the New Apostolic faith.

Up until the 1970’s, Indonesia remained the only country of Asia in which the New Apostolic Church was represented. Eventually, missionary activity began to expand throughout the region of South East Asia, beginning in India. Thereafter the number of New Apostolic Christians began to grow quickly in many Asian countries.

Today there are some 1,440,000 New Apostolic Christians living in Asia, most of them in India. Some 13,500 ministers care for these members in approximately 11,400 congregations throughout the continent. Indonesia is the only independent District Church headquartered in Asia. All the other countries of the Asian continent receive pastoral and financial support from District Churches in Canada and Germany.
