Artificial insemination

Human life begins with the union of the female egg cell and the male sperm cell. The New Apostolic Church supports a couple’s efforts to conceive a child through artificial insemination using the sperm of the husband. It furthermore raises no objections to hormone treatments or operations in order to promote conception. Beyond that, couples also have the option of adoption open to them.

The Church has fundamental religious and ethical reservations against artificial insemination if:

  • a fertilised egg cell is destroyed or stored for later use. A life that has been conceived must not be destroyed.
  • the donor sperm is not that of the husband.
  • surrogate motherhood is planned.
  • the egg cell is not that of the wife.
