(10.04.2008) Dortmund/Lusaka. The three-month rainy season in Zambia unloaded such heavy and enduring rainfalls on some provinces as has not been seen in human memory (we reported). “NAK-karitativ”, the national relief organisation of the New Apostolic Church across Germany with its head office in Dortmund, is preparing to respond to a massive demand for food aid between the months of May and November, as a famine is now threatening the entire country. Bernd Klippert, managing director of “NAK-karitativ” has set aside at least 350,000 Euro for immediate aid. Another 500,000 Euros will follow later on to provide further food aid and seeds. [more]

(22.03.2008) Zurich. At first, entering Myanmar proved to be more difficult than expected on account of visa problems, “but in the end, everything went well,” wrote Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber in his Monday fax to all the Apostles. On this trip to South East Asia he strengthened the brethren in Myanmar and Cambodia with a Bible passage from Joshua 1: 9, and called out to them: “Be strong, be brave, and do not be afraid!” [more]

(13.03.2008) Zurich. For a solid three weeks Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber travelled through the African continent. “My encounters with the brothers and sisters in South Africa, Congo, and Malawi were indescribable,” he said. One youth day in Cape Town and divine services in Lubumbashi, Mbuji Mayi, Kananga, and Goma enabled him to have fellowship with a total of over 100,000 souls who attended the various events in person. This figure does not include those who participated via satellite transmission. At the end of his journey the Church leader celebrated the service for the departed in Lilongwe, Malawi on 2 March. (12.02.2008) Zurich. “In Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe we have had rainfall that far exceeds the norm,” writes District Apostle Charles Ndandula in a letter to Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber. The leader of the New Apostolic Church in these countries on the African continent goes on to report that many homes, fields, and church buildings have been flooded as a result. A total of 3,000 New Apostolic families have also been directly affected. [more]

(12.02.2008) Zurich. In his Monday fax to the Apostles, Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber writes that he has returned from his trip to Hyderabad, India with many new impressions. He went on to express that the diversity of the country’s culture and religions is fascinating: only some three percent of the population is Christian but of this group, some 900,000 are members of the New Apostolic Church. Our brethren there have recently received some new ministerial gifts. [more]

(05.02.2008) New York. Fears of violence in Kenya after the country’s disputed presidential elections have still not come to an end. Hundreds of thousands of people have in the meantime lost their homes, among them many New Apostolic Christians. These Church members, and with them large segments of the general population, have found shelter in our churches. Others seek refuge in police stations, football stadiums, and other official installations. A number of our Church members there have been seriously injured or have lost all their possessions. A few individuals have even been killed. [more]

(01.02.2008) Zurich. The unrest in Kenya has also left its mark on the country’s New Apostolic congregations. As District Apostle Helper Shadreck Lubasi - newly ordained in November 2007 - relates in a letter to Wilhelm Leber, Chief Apostle of the New Apostolic Church, two churches have already been seriously damaged. At present it is not quite clear whether any New Apostolic Christians are among the injured or dead. [more]

(14.12.2007) Zurich. “I have just returned from an ‘African weekend,’” said Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber, the international leader of the New Apostolic Church. On 8 December 2007 - the Saturday preceding the second Sunday of Advent - he conducted a divine service in Banjul, Gambia, followed by another divine service in Ziguinchor, Senegal on Sunday, 9 December 2007. Two Apostles and three Bishops were ordained. On the return trip, there was an unscheduled one-day stop in the Senegalese capital of Dakar: the aircraft had a technical defect. [more]

(30.11.2007) Zurich. District Apostle Andrew Andersen (Australia) relates that cyclone “Guba” struck the Popondetta region of Papua-New Guinea on 16 November, causing serious damage. Unconfirmed reports have stated that some 150 people have already lost their lives as a result of related flooding. Many people are still missing. The entire province is cut off from the outside world. Airplanes are bringing provisions to the local population, since there are no more passable roads. Two of our New Apostolic members are also among the dead. [more]
