(01.11.2008) Zurich. Goma, the capital of Kivu Province in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is sinking into chaos. The Congolese army has abandoned the city and rebel militias are running rampant in the streets. Many people are either dead or fleeing the region. Our New Apostolic brethren in faith in the city and the surrounding area have also been affected, and we are greatly concerned about their safety!
(20.10.2008) Zurich/Buenos Aires. Norberto Carlos Passuni is the name of the new District Apostle of the New Apostolic Church of South America. The District Apostle district encompasses the District Churches of Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay . Last Wednesday, Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber ordained the 59-year-old, who has served as an Apostle for nearly 20 years. He will be the successor to District Apostle Norberto Batista, who died suddenly and unexpectedly on 29 September after suffering heart failure (we reported).
(13.10.2008) New York. Leonard R. Kolb (52) will from now on lead the New Apostolic Church USA as District Apostle. Prior to ordaining him, Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber retired District Apostle Richard Freund (68) who had served for many years as a minister. “You have served the Lord faithfully for 50 years. For this I would like to thank you.” Some 1,000 participants had gathered in New York’s Tilles Center to witness the special act. Congregations throughout the USA, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland were also connected via satellite.

Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber, the international leader of the New Apostolic Church, expressed words of farewell at the close of the two-day fall session of this year’s worldwide District Apostle Meeting in New York. These words of farewell applied to two different situations: to begin with, the Church leader commemorated the recently departed District Apostle Norberto Batista from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and all in attendance rose from their seats for a minute of silence. Then the focus turned to District Apostle Richard Freund (68), who was participating in his last such international conference. On Sunday, 12 October 2008, he retired from ministry after 50 years of active service.
(08.10.2008) New York. All District Apostles and District Apostle Helpers of the New Apostolic Church who are active on the African continent met up on Wednesday, 8 October 2008 in New York for a District Apostle Meeting on Africa. The agenda topics scheduled for discussion were, for the most part, of a strategic nature. Thus for example, the participants occupied themselves with questions about the future development of the larger New Apostolic centres of Zambia, East Africa, and Congo.
(12.09.2008) Zurich. Once again the New Apostolic Church will engage in worldwide prayers on the occasion of the International Day of Prayer on 21 September. This year, Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber has given the event a special accent: he is calling upon his brethren in faith to pray especially for all baptised Christians who are being persecuted or killed on account of their faith in the triune God and their profession of their Redeemer Jesus Christ.
(12.08.2008) Tokyo. District Apostle Leslie Latorcai, leader of the New Apostolic Church in Canada, visited Japan and retired a trusted and faithful minister, District Evangelist Yoshiharu Yahata. 76 years old, he was probably one of the longest serving District Rectors worldwide. On 25th August 1968 he was sealed with his family. This marked the beginning of the Church in Japan. In all these years he worked untiringly with his wife Mitsugi to establish and spread God’s work.
(29.07.2008) Zurich. In January of the coming year, a new District Apostle district will be established in the New Apostolic Church, namely the “New Apostolic Church South East Asia”. Various District Churches will be amalgamated as a result: Indonesia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Thus a total of 18 countries with approximately 2,000 congregations between them will be combined into a single District Apostle district in South East Asia.
(08.07.2008) Pretoria, South Africa. A weekend of great movement in South Africa - that was how Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber summarised his trip to Pretoria. On Saturday, the international Church leader attended a choral concert in Johannesburg’s West Park Cemetery, where over 200,000 people of various nationalities lie buried. The service for the departed took place on Sunday in the Pretoria-Central congregation.
(24.06.2008) Cape Town. Following years of extensive work by our brothers in the music department, Tuesday 20 May 2008 saw the launch of the new English Hymnal. Invited to this launch were all the district ministries and rectors who upon entry to the Silvertown auditorium were each given a complimentary copy of the Hymnal.
