I know your works

July 2004

"I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name." (Revelation 3:8). If this beautiful testimony that Apostle John wrote to the congregation of Philadelphia on behalf of Jesus also applies to us, then we can indeed be joyful, happy, and thankful.

One thing is clear: the Lord knows our works! And He has set an open door before us - into His work and house, to His word and His grace. No one can shut it - no spirit, no man. It is up to each of us to walk through this portal.

Even though our strength is small compared to God's omnipotence, it still suffices to enable us to achieve a number of different works. For example, putting all our effort into attending the divine services. Even this requires a certain degree of effort, because in this last time there is a danger that spiritual sleep might overcome us. And whoever prays, whoever intercedes - be it for his neighbour, the sick, the seeking, the weak, the lost - has also completed a task in the mind of Jesus, which the Lord knows. Another of such works is also the plea for the completion of God's work.

Helping along in the Lord's work can be categorised into many different tasks. It may be that the rector does not see and the district elder and the apostle do not notice what a particular individual does. However, God and His Son know these works, as well as the many offerings that are brought in childlike faith and out of love to the Lord. The reward is assured the faithful!
