The Gift of God

December 2001

When we look at the events of this world, surrounded as we are by poverty and misery, unrest and injustice, famine, war and violent death, then the proclamation of Christmas almost seems strange: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (Luke 2:14, NKJV) But make no mistake: despite everything, this is the time where God wants to be very close to mankind and can be very close to all those that seek Him there where He reveals himself; because this is the time of grace and completion!

God gives the world his complete love: his Son - the greatest that we could imagine. Many people have already dedicated their lives and their wealth to a good cause; this deserves recognition and prompts appreciation. But nothing compares to that which God gave mankind when His Son became flesh, of which Apostle John says: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14, NKJV)

Jesus Christ - the Son of God and Man in one, conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary, saviour and redeemer, who could say of himself: "I am the Good Shepherd", "I am the bread which came down from heaven", "I am the way, the truth and the life". He taught the fear of God and love for one's neighbour and ultimately brought the unique, eternally valid, infinitely great sacrifice on Golgotha, overcame hell, death and the grave and thereby fulfilled the prerequisites so that the burden of sin of mankind could be effaced.

Therefore, let us never forget: the Lord became flesh and brought his sacrifice for our redemption. There is no greater gift! Its validity endures through to our time, for the word inspired by the Holy Ghost and proclaimed by the servants of the Lord also lives among us today, and the grace through the sacrifice of Christ can be experienced again and again when we gather in God's house. These gifts are still active today upon each individual soul that opens itself to them. And when the Lord will reappear, as He has promised, then we will be able to celebrate Ascension, if we have followed through grace until the end. Truly, a gift of God!
