Treasures Eternal

February 1998

The Lord knows all of our days; our days of joy and happiness are known to Him just as are the days of mourning, of suffering, of temptation and of sorrow. Whatever we have to go through, the Lord knows precisely what is ahead of us. And we thankfully accept each day he gives, and each day we place anew our joys and our sorrows into His care. What ever may happen to us, be it joy or suffering, need or sorrow, trial or temptation - we want the Lord to know everything. And if we should do something wrong, we do not want to hide, but come to Him and repent, asking for forgiveness. "The Lord knoweth the days of the upright and their inheritance shall be for ever." (Psalm 37:18)

What does it really mean to be upright? To be honest and devoted to God, to trust in Him and to love Him, that's what it means to be upright. But this is only possible for those that have godfearing hearts and a living faith.

What are these eternal treasures that form our inheritance? In the first place the Word of God; it remains for ever. "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away", says the Son of God (Matth. 24:35). The Word of God should be and should remain the central point of our lives, and then we possess a treasure that has eternal value.

Grace, too, is a treasure that has consequences for all eternity. What would we be without grace? No one would be able to reach that eternal goal, no one could become worthy for eternal fellowship with God and His Son. Burdened with guilt we would face final judgement. Let us accept the Grace of God that is offered to us repeatedly by those Jesus sends.

Love is also a treasure that remains for ever. Let us preserve this treasure that has been poured out into our heart through the Holy Spirit; let us give this love enough room in our hearts so that it may unfold, expand and develop. And the Peace of God, that surrounds the throne of the Highest as the light, also reigns eternal, as do the Truth, into which the Holy Spirit is guiding us, the blessings, that accompany us in all eternity, and the faithfulness granted us by our Heavenly Father.

What eternal treasures await those who lead their lives without fear that the Lord may know all their days!

Most sincerely,<br/>
