Setting: The feast of Pentecost 2005 will go down as an outstanding event in the history of the New Apostolic Church. It was on this Sunday that Chief Apostle Richard Fehr conducted his last divine service. Since 1988 he had led the international New Apostolic Church. His successor in ministry, Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber from Hamburg, discharged him into a well-deserved retirement at the end of the divine service. Some two million souls in more than 70 countries were able to take part in this event by satellite transmission.

Already on the Friday before, the Chief Apostle had announced the name of his successor during an international Apostle Meeting and by way of a news bulletin on the internet. All 356 of the assembled Apostles pledged their support to the designated Church leader with heart and hand.

Pentecost greeting: “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24: 44).

Core thoughts: “May these words lead you into the future, through future hours and days, through weeks and months! Let us always be prepared. But how can we be prepared? By fulfilling Jesus’ words: ‘Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak’ (Matthew 26: 41).”
