Prenatal diagnosis (PND) and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)

The New Apostolic Church is an advocate for life. Human life begins with the union of ovum and sperm cell. The fertilised ovum already constitutes individual life which enjoys the right to protection.

Prenatal diagnosis which secures or enhances the development of the new life is a valuable medical achievement. Methods which compromise or even prevent the normal development of this life should – from the perspective of the Church - be avoided.

The decision for or against prenatal tests is the responsibility of the parents. From the perspective of our faith the acceptance of the new life is of significant importance, even if the test results make a future impairment likely or even prove it.

To select abnormal life and to kill it is not in accordance with Christian ethics. For this reason the New Apostolic Church rejects pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.
